A single mother moves to a small town and her daughter makes friends with a creature from the woods. Please leave feedback!

It was an out of the way place, recessed behind a long, gravel driveway and a wall of forest on all sides. Your closest neighbor was half a mile away. That was fine with you; you liked your privacy. One of the downsides of living in an apartment building in the city was that everyone knew everyone’s business. If it wasn’t fighting, it was fucking, and you didn’t want to listen to either of those things.
Luna was excited about actually having a back yard, even if it was surrounded by trees, as she’d only ever lived in apartments before. She asked if she could have a pet now, and you said you’d think about it as long as she kept it small.
The first day, after the movers had dropped off the boxes and you and Luna had eaten a pizza for lunch, she went out into the backyard to play.
“Don’t go into the woods!” You called to her. “I mean it! I want to be able to see you from the kitchen window. If you go past the treeline, you are dead meat, little missy!”
So do you like villains because they’re cool, or because it’s cathartic to see characters completely lash out against the world for their trauma and abuse and just be angry for all their pain in a manner that doesn’t actually affect anyone since it’s all fictional.

You moved to this small little town a few months ago. After the war between the nearby orc stronghold and the human’s ended, and the Queen married the orc Chief, life here was good. There were no more skirmishes and there was no fighting. When word spread about the new-found peace and how the town was beginning to grow, you left your home. You were ready to start your own life, meet new people and make your own money.

My dearest Lily,
It pains me to say that I’m no longer within this world, and I have only taught you so much. I wish I’d had more time to provide you proper instruction in more of our family’s ways as well as their secrets, but you know how your father felt as well as I do, may he rest in peace. Despite this, I know you have quite a gift inside, and you will find a way to help nourish it. You’re not a Whitande for nothing after all.
Be that as it may, I leave my house and all within it to you, my dear granddaughter. As long as you remain within the house, you will never want for anything. I trust you will take good care of it and all of its occupants because you are of my blood.
All of my love,
Gran

It felt strange as Lily sat on the plush couch in the middle of the living room. Even after coming to this house so many times in the past, without her grandmother it just didn’t feel the same.
While the house now belonged to her per Gran’s wishes, Lily wasn’t quite sure what to do with the place. She leaned her head against the backrest of the couch, staring at the ceiling.
Everyone would say I should sell the old place, but Gran wouldn’t like that. Lily knew there were too many memories for her to have the heart to do so. There were also several other reasons that she couldn’t sell it to someone outside the “family.” And even then, it just didn’t feel right. Gran had left it to her for a reason, and she would stay here for now.
Snorting a bit, Lily stood and looked around the living room filled with various furniture that catered to her grandmother’s unique taste. The grandfather clock that chimed in different musical cadences each hour in the day, the overstuffed chairs that seemed to fluff themselves before and after use, and the antique writing desk made of dark cherry wood. It always had just the utensils she needed in the drawer each time she sat in the matching chair, though it was empty when she felt like looking without needing something. Different items whether pencil, scissors, notepad, or a tape measure always appeared in the drawer when she needed them. Even the wardrobes in the bedrooms possessed clothing in the right size for the current season for all those in the house.
The woman stretched her arms up, flipping some of her long, white hair over her shoulder before heading into the kitchen to prepare dinner.
Good thing Gran wasn’t one of those older kitchen witches that only use cauldrons. Lily shook her head, pulling out a crock-pot to set on the counter. Opening the pantry and the refrigerator, she found only the prepared ingredients needed to make a quick roast, tossing everything inside the crock-pot before placing it on the high setting to cook in a couple of hours. The woman headed back into the living room, checking to see what more needed to be finished today.
